19x Capitol Reef National Park (Slightly Damaged)
It wasn’t long after thesettlers arrived in Fruita that they recognized the need to provide their children a more formal educational experience. In 1896 they built the school, which still stands. Up to 26 students in grades 1-8 were taught by a single teacher; Nettie Behunin, the first instructor, was 14 years old when she began teaching. The school closed in 1941 as the number of students dwindled to six.
